Where is your treasure?

Wow this blog is a hit...74 comments on the last class update..AMAZ-ING!

This week we a pretty sweet class if I do say so myself. By sweet I mean lots of sugar filled treats :) We started off with our morning exercises of pledge and prayer. (*NOTE: Matthew & Gabe have this assignment next week). We spent more time then planned on the timeline cards.
Everyone is doing amazing work on their studies. Good job! We tried to see how fast we could progress in 5 minutes.
No one completed it but quite a few got close. The final cards were given today so STUDY STUDY STUDY!

We continued with a discussion on the GOLD RUSH..We didn't have time to watch a documentry so here is a brief overview to watch at home.
We discussed the scripture "For Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." (Matthew 6:21)

For our activity this week we had a Treasure hunt.  What were they searching for? They werent quite sure either but it was our version of Gold.

They got excited. We gave them a map with a clue on where they could find the treasure and off they went.

They were on the search and boy did they get treasure fever as they searched frantocally in some moments.
Some found quite a large loot and didn't share and others shared with friends. It made for an interesting conversation on what probably happened during the gold fever era. Some didn't want to share with others. We discussed the American Dream..How was it altered by the gold rush? Where do you think their allegiance was? Do people still have gold fever? Well that was answered with the activity today. Is it evil to seek for riches?

We had a presentation by Kensington on President John Adams. She did an awesome job. Her power point was very creative. The best part were her fun facts.
Everyone listened and asked questions when they had them. The kisses at the end were a nice pay off. :0)

We ended our class with a great discussion on the Trap of Gold by Louis L'Amour. Take a moment parents and ask your scholar what they enjoyed or learned from that story.

  1. So, for the Gold Rush documentary, are we supposed to watch the one on the blog, AND find one of our own, or just watch the one on the blog?

  2. Good assumption Preston. That's the great thing about owning your education. You get to choose where you want to take it. I included a small bit of history on it to ensure you get a little more then what we had time to get in class. If you want to watch a better version I would NEVER complain. :0)~Angel

  3. We don't have to answer any question on the blog, do we? I didn't see one that looked like we needed to answer it. The ones on there we talked about in class.

  8. Ammon 5-10 minutes is a good aim but really it's as long as you need it to be and it can be about anything not just his Presidency. :) Angel

  9. An Ode to Magma Cubes:
    Ah, the magma cube,
    Why does thou hide?
Completely unknown to the common noob,
    We know what's inside.

The most armored beast in all of the nether,
And acrobatic skills the envy of slimes.
With natural defenses stronger than leather,
You could survive the darkest of times.

Yet you choose few numbers and seclusion,
    Watching the world go by.
with your strength, your shyness brings confusion,
You could dominate the nether, if only you'd try.

You possess something all adventurers desire
a way to survive a misstep while mining.
You give immunity from lava and blazes and fire
You can save 10-year-olds from raging and whining.

    Ah, the magma cube,
    Why does thou hide?
Completely unknown to the common noob,
    We know what's inside.

No Offence to any 10-year olds out there!
