Genius Shapes History

The girls were focused, determined and quiet!
It is fun to watch each of their systems for the cards.  Yet another way to see how each students genius operates!
They were hard at work on those cards.....
Gabe won the time card race and earned a cold stone gift card!  Keep up the good work
Ammon had a great President report on Andrew Jackson.  There were A LOT of interesting facts!
Matthew also brought in his quote
Gabe had a great pledge and quote!

We started with the pledge and quote by Gabe and Matthew.  Then we moved onto time cards.  The students all need to do the time cards in under 10 minutes.  Keep practicing!

We recapped the time period between 1793 – 1860 with a matching game using their time card knowledge.
We talked about how the genius of different individuals had the power to shape and change history.  We used examples of what life would be like without certain people in it.  Hopefully the students realized the power that each individual (including themselves) has to change the world.

Below are the people we used as examples to show how the world would be different without them.  We discussed how each of them had a mission and questioned if they thought they each fulfilled their personal missions.
Abraham Lincoln
George Washington
Eli Whitney
Lewis and Clark
William Wilberforce
Cochise
Santa Ana
Brigham Young
Harriet Beecher Stowe

We also watched a short video on Justice Marshall and how he changed the Judicial Branch of the gov’t.  The legislative Branch wasn’t supposed to make laws but after Board v Brown of Education it changed the checks and balances in the government.  Those changes still effect us today.

We also discussed how Brown vs Board of Education came about and the emotions used in a case to sway a decision.  We showed a copy of a video made to duplicate the video shown in the court case.   It had a profound effect on any that saw it what was your favorite part about thanksgiving but we discussed whether the courts should focus on facts or emotions and how that simple distinction could alter our decisions.

After talking about all of the genius some leaders in history exhibited we talked about their indivisual geniuses.  We asked the following questions which would be great to ask your students again to see if they have continued to think about it.

What do you think your genius may be? How might your individual talents
affect others? Discuss the need for different genius. Why does God distribute
talents in a way that makes us so different? Discuss the need to work together to
create a whole society.

We then took a personality Test that is found in TJYC for Teens.  Have your student show you their tests.

After finishing their tests on their personal mission and genius we challenged them to really think about what their mission is here and what they need to do to prepare daily to accomplish that mission.

It was a great class!  We were impressed with how the students really pondered their mission and the examples of those with strong missions who paved the way so they have the freedom to accomplish their personal missions.

We love teaching your students!

  2. What are the requirements for my William H. Gates Inventor Report? Should I like, say stuff about what he invented, how cool he is, and/or his house/family? Should my devotional be something someone said in real life, or something that has an impact/meaning to me?

  3. I will post a final final time cards list today. As for inventor requirements let your genius shine! You have 10 minutes to enlighten us. Do what you would like to hear if you were in the audience. I think it is safe to assume we would like the basics about your inventor and they you can create and explore from there. Good luck and surprise us!

For the quote - either a quote that inspired you or something that has had impact/meaning to you. Again - use your genius! Be creative. This is where you get to shine.
